My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. It’s a special day in November that honors the things we are thankful for. We remember the first people to immigrate to America from western Europe and the indigenous people who helped them by giving them food when the weather got cold and they were running out of food. People celebrate by having a huge meal with their family. If people are far away from home, sometimes they have a “Friendsgiving” where they share the meal with their friends instead of their family. The typical meal includes a turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, candied yams, rolls, one or two other side dishes, and pumpkin pie for dessert.
This is my favorite holiday because I love spending time with my family. We are very close and always have such a fun time. I usually get to my mom’s house early in the morning and help her prepare all the food. She loves to cook and has been teaching me how so I can host Thanksgiving when she gets too old. Some people get really stressed about everything being perfect, but my mom isn’t like that. Before we eat, we all go around the table saying something we are thankful for. It’s a really nice time to reflect on the last year and remember that there are good things in our lives. After dinner we eat pie, drink coffee, and watch the football game.
