Dialogue 1: At the doctor’s
Doctor: Good morning Alp. How are you feeling today?
Alp: I’m a bit under the weather. I am sneezing a lot and my eyes are stinging. What can I do about it?
Doctor: It sounds like an allergy. Are you using a different aftershave or deodorant?
Alp: Well yes, my wife bought me a new aftershave for my birthday.
Doctor: That could be the problem. You should stop using it and see if that helps. You should also take some of these eye drops to stop the stinging. If the sneezing doesn’t stop it could be something different. You should come back to see me again if you don’t improve.
Alp: OK, thank you doctor. Have a good day.
Dialogue 2: At the guidance counselor’s
GC: Come in Hande and take a seat.
Hande: Thank you.
GC: What can I help you with Hande?
Hande: Well, I used to want to study Medicine at university and my parents really want me to become a doctor. But lately I have become more interested in art. I have always been interested in drawing but it was only a hobby.
GC: So, what has changed?
Hande: I showed some of my drawings to a local artist and he was really impressed. He said I’m very talented. I think I want to be an artist but I don’t know how to tell my parents. They will be so disappointed. What should I do?
GC: Well maybe before you talk to them you should think about it some more. Being an artist can be a struggle. It can be hard to have a successful career as an artist. Maybe you could do an internship with an artist or talk to some more professionals in that field.
Hande: Yes, perhaps an internship is a good idea.
GC: I can talk to some of my contacts and organise a placement for you. Then, if you still really want to study art, you should go for it!
Hande: Really?
GC: Yes, you should tell your parents how you feel and then we can start to work on your portfolio for college.
Hande: Thank you so much!
